Throwing

My 22-month old son loves to throw things. Anything. His toys, food, crayons. Anything that gets into his grasp. Whenever he sees his big sis tidy things up, sometimes he help tidy up too. But most of the time, he just wants to make a mess. I dont know how to teach him not to throw things. I talked to him and explained that only his balls are allowed to be thrown but not other stuff. Sometimes, he remembers and doesnt throw things. But other times, I just dont know what to do.

Is this normal? Have you encountered this too? Do you have any advise?

Kids do love to throw things but now that he is getting older is getting to the age where he will love to help. I would just say that you take his hand and have him pick it up every single time. I would have my boys go pick up whatever they threw, and if they wouldn’t do it on their own, I would make them do it.

I also gently took their hand and encouraged them to help me pick up their toys when it was time to clean-up.

But it’s been awhile since I’ve had little ones so don’t know what others are doing.
