Discipline, Anyone?

I never expected that this will be my life as a parent. I truly enjoyed the infant stage of my kids, but now that I have a toddler and a pre-schooler, there are days that I just don’t know what to do with the kids! They can be sweet and obedient one moment, then become the total opposite the next. It is really hard to be a parent, isn’t it? You have the responsibility for another life. You have to care, provide, nurture and train them. But how are we to do this?

The Bible has several passages about parenting. It has several instructions to us parents.

Discipline your son, for in that there is hope;
do not be a willing party to his death. Prov 19:18

Do not withhold discipline from a child;
if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Punish him with the rod
and save his soul from death. Prov 23:13-14

Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it. Prov 22:6

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

It is so clearly stated that we are the ones who are responsible to discipline them. How our children will be when they grow up depends largely upon us. Especially with the easy access of media, the Internet and other outside influences, it is so easy for us to take this role lightly. But the passages from the Scripture reminds us that we, as parents, should take action. Be active and not passive.

This is enough to prompt me to act. Even when I don’t feel like doing anything, I should be actively involved in disciplining them. Now that I have a 4 year old and an almost 2 year old, I believe that discipline should be consistently implemented. Eventually, the kids will know their limits.

How about you? How are you disciplining your kids?

    I love your blog and am happy to give it a smile award! I understand the difficulty in raising well balanced toddlers. We had a major blow-out at the mall yesterday when it was time to leave the play area. I have never been so embarrassed. I stuck to my plan and finally made it out of there, embarrassment and all.

    You can pick up the award over on my blog and read more about it.

    Merry Christmas!

    This is a great post! Yes I discipline my children in love but you’re right, its HARD! There are days when I feel like all I do is discipline and other days when I feel like all is well and love is everywhere. 🙂

    Hope that you find the lovely days mixed with the necessary.

    Your Friend,
    Sonya
