Sinful Nature

Do you believe we are all sinful by nature?

Well, if you don't, just look at our kids. At the age of 1+, one can see the nature of humanity in their little bodies. Just look at the way they respond to situations they face... Usually, kids are selfish (not wanting to share), rebellious (acting against what they know they shouldnt do) and you can probably add more .... and no one taught them to do this things.

I believe people are all sinful by nature. We have inherited it from the first people in the world, Adam and Eve, since the time they committed their first act of disobedience.

Mom and daughter bonding time

Today, I spent some time with Kyla making our first oven toaster baked banana bread :) It was fun to spend some time working in the kitchen with our 4 year old :) I am not into cooking or baking, but because our little girl is growing up, I decided to give it a try. I'd like to try so Kyla will learn to try out new things too :) Actually, it turned out pretty good. Wonder what we should try next?

To wean or not to wean?

I've been breastfeeding Toby for almost 1 year and 9 months now. It has been a very fulfilling experience and an economical one too :) But, I have been considering weaning him from breastfeeding. Hopefully, before he reaches 2, we are completely weaned.

He takes in milk supplement around 3 times a day, 4-6 ounces each time.

I've been slowly lessening our feeding times as much as I could for the past months. Now, we are down to 1 feeding in the morning and 1 - 2 feedings in the afternoon and feeding every time he wakes up during the night.

I am running out of ideas as to how to wean him, do you have any suggestions? Would love to hear from you.

date with the kids

After attending worship service today, I get to go out with the kids to the mall while hubby was in a meeting. We had pizza over lunch, went to the play area for half an hour, went to shop for slippers, puzzle and memory game cards. It was a blast. I got tired chasing after them but it was worth it, watching them enjoy and have fun.

中秋節=Mooncake Festival

I came from a Chinese family, and we have a yearly tradition whenever the mid-September comes (the exact date varies as we use the Lunar calendar to set the date of the festival). My relatives from my mom's side all gather at our grandma's place, exchange mooncakes and we play the game wherein we use 6 dices and throw it on a bowl. There are corresponding prices according to how many 4s come out or how many similar number comes out from the dices. Its just a time of fun and fellowship with aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

This is the bookshelf of the kids!

Here are some of their favorite books...

This is the very first book of Kyla, The Caterpillars of Ha-Ha. We started to read it together when she was 5 months old. Toby also enjoyed this book when he was about a year old.

If you have a child who likes books, feel free to snag this one :)

Kyla's Day

We attended the Manila International Bookfair at SMX Convention Center. We were all excited.

But it was Kyla's day. Most of the books we bought were for her. She loves answering workbooks so we bought some and when we saw the booth of Art Angel, we got one kit for her. She was able to join the workshop with the hosts of Art Angel, Ate Pia and Kuya Tonypet...We even got some pictures as souveneirs.

Meeting Baby No. 2

After 7 hours of labor, baby boy Toby Justin has finally arrived via normal spontaneous delivery. He was barely 6 pounds and he seemed so tiny! After I was able to recover, I immediately went to the nursery to see him and breastfeed him...

As a baby, Toby seemed to be crying most of the time. He was even admitted to the hospital on his 6th day, because his pedia then was so worried that Toby was still so yellowish. It turns out that he was diagnosed with breastmilk jaundice.

By the 2nd or 3rd month onwards. Toby became a happy baby and was relatively quite easy to please. He is always smiling and very sociable. He always seem to make us laugh with his facial expressions and his antics!

He is now a very active toddler at 1 year and 8 months! And we are still breastfeeding though he is also drinking milk supplements from the sippy cup.

Toby, you are God's gift to us! God is good (this is what Toby means).
We are blessed to have you!

Finally...Meeting Baby No. 1

After 9 months of carrying the baby on your womb, one cant describe the feeling when she finally meets her baby :) I was in labor for 13 hours and finally, baby came out via normal spontaneous delivery. I was excited, nervous and anxious, like there were butterflies in my tummy. I was sedated right after the baby came out and so I dont recall seeing her... and when I woke up, all I wanted was to go to the nursery to see her. And this is what I saw..

I cant believe that she is finally here. Kyla was born on February 10, 2004 at 3:02am .

Kyla wasnt a fussy baby. She was basically quite easy to care for and was truly a bundle of joy. She was breastfed for 11 months and we truly enjoyed our bonding time together.

Time has passed by so fast and now, she is a preschooler already.

I am so blessed to have you, Kyla, as my firstborn.
Thank you Lord. You have been so good and faithful to us.

expecting...

pregnancy is a wonderful journey. it is God's gift to us women. most of us who have been pregnant would say that it has been an experience we can never forget.

when i first found out i was pregnant with our first child back in 2003, i became nervous... didnt know what to expect and didnt know if i can handle being a mom. we were married for 2 years already then. i was excited too, because i knew that life would never be the same for me. my first trimester as it turned out, was quite horrible. i had hyperemesis. i was brought to the hospital and stayed there for 2 days after too much throwing up. i lost about 10 pounds and wasnt able to go to work for a couple of weeks too. my second and third trimesters though were a lot better and i was able to gain weight... i had a very happy and enjoyable pregnancy.

when i found out that i was pregnant with my 2nd baby, back in 2006, i was more excited than nervous. by this time, i really wanted to have another baby since i truly enjoyed caring for our firstborn and have totally forgotten what morning sickness was like! my first trimester, wasnt as horrible as my previous one, but there were still days that i couldnt keep anything on my tummy and cant do anything aside from lying down. though now, i knew better. when i was feeling sick and wanted to throw up, i sucked on ice or ice candy and that helped lessen my vommitting. then came second trimester, i felt better and was looking forward to seeing our new bundle of joy. i remember that i was more concerned whether i would be able to provide the same kind of love, care and affection for our second child as i did for our firstborn. but sometime, on my 5th month, i had some spotting. was advised by the doctor to take it easy and was also given some medicine. spotting went on and off until my third trimester. on my third trimester, i was diagnosed to have UTI or urinary tract infection. i had to take several anti-biotics. and this lasted until i was due to give birth.

i believe that when you are expecting, the love and support of your hubby is a big factor whether you will have an enjoyable journey. another factor is the guidance of your OB-GYNE. i was glad that my OB-GYNE was available anytime thruogh text, whenever i had a question. she was more like a friend to me those days. i met my OB-GYNE just by walking in to her clinic in Glorietta in 2003. she was kind, patient and shown genuine concern for me. so even if we were already residing far from her clinic when my 2nd pregnancy came, i still chose her as my OB-GYNE. i guess the trust and rapport was already established.

for those of you who are expecting a baby, just try to enjoy the journey and follow the instructions of your OB-GYNE :) or whoever is guiding you :) also, read some preggy books. it helped me to know what to expect and was able to prepare myself. here are some books i found helpful:

it is a remarkable experience and truly God's gift that shouldn't be taken for granted. as they say, once you see your baby, every ounce of hardship you've experienced is forgotten.
