How would you bring back your trust to someone who had broken it twice? Do you think it’s possible? Can a broken trust be whole again?

I think it is hard to give your trust again to someone who has broken it not once, but twice. Broken trust needs unconditional love and understanding so it can be whole again.
Humanly speaking, I think it is impossible to trust someone who broke your heart several times already. Only with the love of Christ in our hearts can we truly forgive someone who has hurt us and openly give our trust again. We need to have experienced Christ's love first, His unconditional love, before we can share it with another.

Nap Time?

I just want to know. Do your kids take a nap during the day? For how long?

My 4 year old doesnt take a nap anymore. She keeps herself busy with anything she can put her hands on. My 22-month old is changing his nap time. He used to take 2 naps a day. One at 1030am and another one at 3pm. Around 1 hour each. But for this past week, he has been refusing his afternoon nap. I think his body clock is changing. Though I still want him to take a nap so he can wind down a little (and i could rest a bit too). I think I should make him take his nap at around 12pm instead. So that he wouldnt be too tired in the late afternoon.

Throwing

My 22-month old son loves to throw things. Anything. His toys, food, crayons. Anything that gets into his grasp. Whenever he sees his big sis tidy things up, sometimes he help tidy up too. But most of the time, he just wants to make a mess. I dont know how to teach him not to throw things. I talked to him and explained that only his balls are allowed to be thrown but not other stuff. Sometimes, he remembers and doesnt throw things. But other times, I just dont know what to do.

Is this normal? Have you encountered this too? Do you have any advise?

Congrats Love! You made it!

Today, my hubby graduated from his Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies major in Biblical Studies! Yipee! We attended his graduation at Rizal Recreation Center in Rizal Laguna.

I am very proud of my hubby who really worked hard and persevered so he can finish his master's degree. Thank you God for causing him to finish and giving him opportunities to minister and share to others what he has learned.

To Erwin, thanks for being a good husband, loving father and a leader to our family. We love you!

Finally Weaned

After 2 weeks, I can say that my little boy, at 22 moths, is finally weaned. He no longer asks for "dede" and no longer wants to "dede" too. Well, the weaning process was a gradual one. I actually started to wean him when he turned 18 months. I gradually lessened our feeding time and feeding frequency and I taught him to go to sleep without nursing. I did this by adding new stuff to our routine. We played with a "special" toy, a toy that lights up in the dark. We only play with this toy when we are about to go to sleep. We read books together. And whenever he wanted to nurse just before we sleep, I would often remind him that he is now a big boy and big boys don't "dede" anymore.

I was hesitant to wean him. Partly because I know this means he is now a little boy, not a baby anymore. Probably my motherly instinct doesnt want to let him go yet... Another reason, I was afraid that he was drinking too little milk supplement. One more reason, he can be really loud when he cries. But eventually, I decided to stop breastfeeding him altogether. He already is drinking milk supplements from the cup (about 2 cups a day) and I really wanted him to sleep through the night already. I knew that nursing him at night was the reason why he keeps waking up every 2 hours or so.

So, one night, I just told him, "sorry Toby but no more "dede", only milk from cup." Of course he cried and cried when he woke up the first time on the first night. He cried for 30 minutes to an hour. Then he fell asleep while I was holding him. After 2 hours, he woke up again, but this time he only cried for 10-15 minutes. The next night, he cried for about 10 minutes or less. It took him about 2 nights. The third night he no longer woke up. But after a week, he woke up again and was asking for milk. Probably he was still adjusting. Now, its been a week since he last woke up at night.

Consistency is what he needed to learn to fall asleep without nursing and to be weaned... finally.

I sure miss our nursing time but I know that it is time for him to go and grow. Ah...the joys of motherhood.

When SAHM one speaks: when your partner cheats

What would you do if you found out that your partner cheats on you?

I certainly hope that this will never happen. But if it does happen, I will investigate about the affair. When I have already done so, I will confront my partner. I will inquire about details on the affair and what made him cheat on me. Coming from a Christian home, I would remind him what the Bible has stated about adultery. I would also ask him what his plans are about the affair.

This certainly is a very difficult topic and I hope none of us would ever have to face this kind of situation.

Picky Eaters

This was supposed to be my entry for Pinoy Parenting Blog Carnival.

I have a 4 year old little girl who is a picky eater. She eats certain kind of food only and is very particular. Let me give you a few examples of how picky she gets. She wants her spaghetti without ground pork or hotdog, she doesnt eat veggies (only eats cabbage from time to time), she doesnt like fruits except for banana and apple. she didnt like ice cream until she tried ube flavor a few months ago. she doesnt like to try and explore very much. she is very cautious about everything and that includes trying out new food. When she was a baby, she wasnt very picky but when she turned 2, she started to choose which food she like to eat and not eat. I really have no idea what made her so picky. Now, I have a 22 month old little boy. He also started out not picky. He used to eat anything I put on his plate. But recently, I noticed that he started to remove or not eat certain food. Maybe, he is imitating his older sister.

With this dilemna, I try to offer them different kinds of food. We try to cook our food differently and as we experiment, we offer it to them. I also show them eating fruits and veggies are good for the body and encourage them to try it out too. I haven't been very successful so I am looking around for any other tips that I can use.

I am not very picky about what my kids eat. I just make sure they eat their meals and enjoy meal time. I also give them cow's milk as their milk supplement at least 2x a day. I allow them to eat chips once in a while, but we do not make it a regular part of their food intake. I am opposed to having them drink sodas. I am glad my little girl doesn't like soda. My little boy likes ice cream a lot. We buy ice cream once in a while but not so often too.

I used to worry about their intake of carbs/protein/fats etc, but I realized that worrying is not healthy and can not help them or me at all. I do my best to offer a balanced meal (as our budget allows us) and encourage them to try out new food.

If you have any tips on how I can help my picky eaters become not so picky, I would like to hear from you!

Gifted Child?

My dauhter Kyla just started to go to school this school year. Early on, my hubby and I have noticed that Kyla is really a very bright girl. She was able to talk straight very early. She learned to write ABC on her own at home by age 3 and she is not like the usual kids. She is a bit reserved and can sit still even if other children are running around her. She has a very extensive memory and she has facination with books at an early age. She also has a slow to warm up personality. She initially has intense reactions when there is a high level of nosie. I was quite worried at first. Is Kyla a gifted/special child? What do I do?

Well, I did a lot of research on the web. This is what I found from this site.

Some of the earliest signs of giftedness include:
- unusual alertness in infancy
- less need for sleep in infancy
- long attention span
- high activity level
- smiling or recognizing caretakers early
- intense reactions to noise, pain, frustration
- advanced progression through the developmental milestones
- extraordinary memory
- enjoyment and speed of learning
- early and extensive language development
- fascination with books
- curiosity
- excellent sense of humor
- abstract reasoning and problem-solving skills
- vivid imagination (e.g., imaginary companions)
- sensitivity and compassion


According to the site, early detection (from ages 3-8) is recommended. So far, Kyla has been able to adjust to school and adapt socially. She is curently in Kinder class at age 4. We are continually observing her.

If you have the same situation with your kid, I hope this posting has helped you and encouraged you. God has given us these children because He knows we can take care of them and be the parents these children need us to be. Of course, only with the guidance of God in our lives.

At the Well - Standing for Your Marriage

The topic today is Standing for Your Marriage. Chelsey asked the following questions:

What does commitment in marriage mean? What kind of wife are we called to be to our husbands? What are ways that we can Biblically stand for our marriage?

I believe that commitment in marriage means --- being there for each other even if you feel like not being there. Forgiving the other even if its not your fault. Serving the other even if you are tired. Encouraging your partner so he can be all that God has called him to be. Being gentle and loving with your partner even when you are tired. Commitment is not based on feelings or current situations. Commitment in marriage is a lifelong commitment. God abhors divorce.

We are called to be submissive wives. Our husbands are our leaders. We are to give them the respect and leadership role in our families. This is the original design that God intended for our marriages. It is through submission that we can show our husbands love and respect. We are also to be their helpmeet. We are to support them, encourage them and help them reach their God-given potentials.

We are to pray for our husbands. We are to show respect, even when no one else is looking. We are to support and serve our husbands.
