Love of Country, Part 2

I asked several people online how they teach love of country to their kids and here are the replies I got:

Respect for the flag and national anthem. – Belle Delos Reyes (CruisinMomhood)

By talking to them in Filipino for starters. Mahalin ang sariling wika 🙂 – Neva (manilamommy)

I take advantage of school assignments. visiting historical places. I emphasize significant points w/c can help her further relate their relevance on being a proud Filipino. They’re being discussed in school too so she’s able to connect right away. (ex. Rizal’s works).

Inculcating on her mind Fil values such that wherever we are or whoever we are with, she’s proud of her race and upholds good Filipino values. – Lynn Sta Iglesia Zamora

When we were homeschooling we had several field trips to historical sites and tourist spots for the lessons in social studies. In fact, yung land and waterforms examples were all from Philippines.

We also encourage them to always stand straight, be quiet or sing and put hand on chest when national anthem is being played. My 3 children all became members of the Scouting movement to further foster being responsible citizens. – Julie Custodio – Fuertes
I’d love to hear from you. Share some tips as well!
