The Chinese Wonder Book Review

Coming from a Chinese family, I am interested to share to my children some Chinese heritage and stories. I am grateful that Tuttle Publishing has published The Chinese Wonder Book by Norman Pitman. It contains 15 classic Chinese folktales which has brought joy to countless families.

The amazing stories included are:

  • The Golden Beetle or Why the Dog Hates the Cat
  • The Great Bell
  • The Strange Tale of Doctor Doo
  • The Talking Fish
  • Bamboo and the Turtle
  • The Mad Goose and the Tiger Forest
  • The Nodding Tiger
  • The Princess Guanyin
  • The Two Jugglers
  • The Phantom Vessel
  • The Wooden Tablet
  • The Golden Nugget
  • The Man Who Would Not Scold
  • Lusan, Daughter of Heaven

But my daughter’s favorite so far is “How Footbinding Started”. She found footbinding to be a strange Chinese tradition so she was truly interested to read this story.

The Chinese Wonder Book is a hardbound book with 96 pages of full-color illustrations by Li Chu Tang, This is actually originally published in 1919 and has been republished for the new generation to enjoy.

You may get this book from Tuttle Publishing.
