Philippine Homeschool Convention 2019

As Mahatma Gandhi said ““There is no school equal to a decent home, and no teacher equal to a virtuous parent.” certainly, there is “No Place Like Home”. This year, Educating for Life or EFL in partnership with Moneygment and SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier, gathers together all homeschoolers as one community at the Philippine Homeschool Convention (PHC) 2019: to connect with and inspire one another to be the “teachers” and build the “schools” that Gandhi was talking about.

To be held on September 7, 2019 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier, Taguig City, this year’s convention will gather hundreds of Filipino parents and provide them with inspiration and encouragement to live out their calling as their children’s primary educators.

Philippine Homeschool Convention 2019 Breakout Speakers:
“Younique Parenting: Why Parents are the Best Teachers” by Jayson Lo
Taking on the responsibility to be our children’s primary educator is a heroic feat. It can be daunting to think about it, and no matter what season you’re in, a homeschooling parent will always have doubts and questions. Can I really do this? Am I doing enough? Is my child happy? Veteran homeschooling dad Jayson Lo will address these fears and strengthen your conviction to be your children’s teacher.

“Home as the First School” by Dawn Fung
Parents are the primary teachers, and the home is the first school. In this session, Dawn Fung, homeschooling mom of three and founder of Homeschool Singapore, will share her thoughts about this truth as she experienced it in their own home.

“Homeschooling as a Calling, Vocation, and Privilege” by Dr. Donna Pangilinan-Simpao
Parents decide to homeschool for different reasons. Some homeschool for lofty goals, while others took this path for practical reasons. No matter the motivations, all homeschooling parents agree that taking on this challenge is a calling, a vocation, and a privilege. We believe it to be our mission to educate our children, an undertaking that consumes and anchors our whys. Retired homeschooling mom and HAPI President Dr. Donna Pangilinan-Simpao shares her reflections on these as she looks back on their homeschooling journey as a family.

“It’s Homeschool, Not School at Home” by Marla Taviano
We all have our ideas about an ideal homeschool day and lifestyle. But the truth is, life happens as you homeschool – and that’s perfectly fine! Marla Taviano will remind and inspire us to embrace the daily grind as the lesson plan and bust the myth of a perfect homeschool day. After all, the world is our classroom and life is our curriculum.

“What Homeschooling Taught Me: Reflections of a Homeschooling Mom” by Michelle Padrelanan
When it comes to homeschooling, learning is not a one-way street. Parents learn as the children learn, as veteran homeschooling mom and Educating for Life co-founder, Michelle Padrelanan, will share.

It will be my first time to miss the convention since EFL has been holding them annually as I will be out of town. If I were here, I definitely would be here because attending conventions has always given me the encouragement I needed to keep homeschooling my kids. So, if you are available, don’t miss the chance to be encouraged and equipped in your homeschooling journey.
