The Sunday Vacation Bible School at our church just concluded last Sunday and I was very happy that my kids were able to bring home some awards 🙂

I do hope that these awards will inspire them to continue loving, learning about Christ and serving Him as they grow up!

On June 2011, the whole family went to watch the Azkals play against Sri Lanka. It was our first time to watch a football game live and we all came home as fans of the Philippines men’s national team. My son fell in love with the game at age 4 and has been following the UFL games and all the other Azkals games since then. He was able to watch the Azkals play live again against LA Galaxy last December. This summer, he was very excited to finally be able to join a short football introductory class. The coaches said that he showed potential!

This summer has really been an eventful one for my son. He also got to meet Emilio “Chieffy” Caligdong.

And he also met Phil Younghusband …

and his favorite, James Younghusband.

They got to chat a bit with him and he had the magazine and the ball signed too.

It was really an awesome experience for him!

And just a few nights ago, we were able to watch the Azkals vs. Indonesia game live again. It was an awesome family bonding experience. And to root for your country together with all the other people, sparks a bit of nationalism in your blood too! We also believe that watching the game brings inspiration to our little Mr. Football to do better in his sports! 🙂

Today marked another special day in my daughter’s life as she performed for the 2nd time in CCP. It was their ballet recital day! We watched her dance twice and we saw a remarkable improvement in her movements compared to her last ballet recital which was held last year. My daughter Kyla has been regularly attending ballet classes for 2 years now under Acts Manila Santa Rosa. I am truly proud to see her growing in the field of ballet, moreso, seeing her grow as she becomes more diligent and passionate about doing her best for the Lord.

When we watched her dance today, we can no longer see the super shy girl who always cried on stage instead we see a confident little lady dancing gracefully and purposefully for the Lord. My prayer is that may she continue to use the talent that God has given her for His glory in the days to come.

The greatest gift is a passion for reading.  – Elizabeth Hardwick

I love reading books and it brings me great joy that my kids also love to read! It is one of our favorite bonding moments when we all snuggle up and read books together. We started early when the kids were still babies. We often have read aloud time and this probably sparked their interest in books.

We started out with children’s Bibles, then we moved on to their favorite character books like Barbie, Cars, Thomas the train and others. Of course, there will always be books about ballet and football too.  Then we started collecting Dr. Seuss books like Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and others. Then  we started reading the Magic Tree House series. We also loved the Magic School Bus books.

It is only recently that I have been acquiring classics for them. We loved E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web and since then, we have been hunting down classics. We loved these classic books which were about a mother’s love . They brought tears to my eyes as I was reading them to my kids. I explained to them that a mother’s love is unconditional and it allowed us to share a “moment” together.

We are currently enjoying Beatrix Potter’s great literature. And we are actually looking forward to incorporating some of these classics to our language arts lessons in the coming school year.

As Dr. Seuss says, “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”  As parents, let us incorporate  a “reading together” time in our family schedules. It not only increases one’s vocabulary, it creates an appreciation for learning and brings lasting memories that we and  our children will cherish for a lifetime.

We will be doing a series of posts on books and reading in the coming weeks, I hope that you subscribe to my email list for the latest updates!

May 18 is International Museum Day. Since my family loves to visit museums, I will share some of our recent museum trips! Our most recent museum trip was The Mind Museum. It was a wonderful place for exploring minds. The place was interactive. Actually, the place is packed with information so a return trip is necessary to enjoy the other areas.

Another favorite is The Ayala Museum. We LOVED the diorama section of the Philippine History in the 2nd floor. It was really visual and the kids enjoyed their time listening to the stories while looking at the diorama piece. We also enjoyed the Manga exhibit at the Ayala Museum had at the time we visited.

And the first museum the kids loved was Museo Pambata. Though some of the stuff inside looks a bit old and worn, the place is still a hit! They enjoy every time we go! And best of all, the entrance fee is very affordable.

Museums are great places to visit. Everyone learns something new! A fun and educational way to learn and create some great memories as a family!
