Reading Challenge for 2015

A few weeks ago, I posted my goals for 2015. One of them is to read more regularly so I am reposting this Reading Challenge I saw from my friend Roche’s reading challenge for 2015.

I hope to feature the books that I will be able to read and check off from this list. Do you want to take the reading challenge for 2015 with me?

Ang Nanay Kong Titser Book Review

Over the summer break, one of my goals was to read books. I was grateful that Church Strengthening Ministry gave me a couple of books to review.

Church Strengthening Minstry produces Christian literature on family and relationships, leadership, other inspirational topics as well as financial stewardship and church/pastoral resources. They are celebrating their 25th year in the ministry this year. They aim to continue developing resources to help God’s people reach God’s world. The first book they gave me is Ang Nanay Kong Titser by Christian educator Ms. Bessie Rios.

Ms. Bessie Rios is a passionate trainer and lecturer on childhood education. She holds a master’s degree in Christian Leadership and also a master’s degree in Family Life and Childhood Development and a doctoral degree in School Administration.

Ang Nanay Kong Titser is written in a mixed Filipino and English text which makes it easy to read. This fits well with the overall theme of the book. It is a practical book for moms who want to teach their young children at home. Ms. Rios states simple and easy step by step instructions on becoming your child’s first teacher. Becoming your child’s teacher need not be boring but it is fun and practical! Ms. Rios believes that moms are the best teachers for their young children and she made this book to guide moms to fulfill that role.

The book covers different areas upon which a mom can teach her child. It starts with mom’s pregnancy, child’s development, child’s artistic abilities, child’s acceptance of others,  daily chores, travel  and how to raise eagerness in reading and writing. A well rounded book covering the physical, emotional, mental and social development  of a child.

I liked it that a great portion of the book dealt  with learning through household chores. Children nowadays don’t particpate in household chores when they can learn so much from it.

I would recommend this book to moms who want to be more intentional in teaching their young children at home. This book equips us with doable tips  and how to make every opportunity a learning moment for our kids.

This book costs 270  pesos and is available in leading bookstores nationwide or you can send an email to

Books That Shaped My Life

Since I was young, I have always loved reading books, and through the years, there are several books which have shaped my life. I don’t think I can write about all of them so I chose 9 of them, and I’d like to share them with you.

The Holy Bible – Ever since I became a follower of Christ, the Bible has been a constant source of inspiration, insight and instruction. It has been with me during my darkest days and my happiest moments. It is truly a book that speaks to my heart. Amazing, exciting and eternal!

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis – A fictional book which reminds me of the wonders of life. Reading this book has reminded me to look at the world through a child’s perspective. Not to become a cynical adult but to be a hopeful child – always looking for whatever is good, whatever is noble and whatever is bright.

Spirit Controlled Temperament by Tim LaHaye – Through this book, I have learned a lot about my own personality and how to deal with my strengths and weaknesses. Each one of us is unique and after reading this book, I saw how special God has made us. A true eye opener that allowed me to appreciate other people around me.

Cultivating Your Inner Life by Edmund Chan – I have always believed in intentional living. Life is short and living intentionally doesn’t just happen to you. You need to be proactive in living your life. I learned that  you need to cultivate your inner life so that you can be productive at whatever you are doing. This is a book I read recently when I felt discouraged, and it has enlightened my soul.

Regret Free Parenting by Catherin Hickem – When I was blessed by the Lord to become the mom of my kids, I knew I wanted to become a stay at home mom. As the years go by,  I learned that becoming a stay at home mom is not enough, I needed to be involved and available for my kids and not be constantly busied by modern technologies or household chores. I wanted to be sure that I will not regret how I lived my life. This book gave me fresh insights how to maximize my life as a stay at home mom.

The Mom You’re Meant to Be by Cheri Fuller  – God has a specific calling for each one of us and I believe that mine was to be my husband’s helper and be my kids’ mom. I have my hands full. God has blessed me with such a great responsibility and I wanted to do it correctly. I found this book encouraging and it reminds me of what God really wants to do.

Shepherding A Child’s Heart by Tedd Tripp. A book that made me realize that parenting is not all about behavior but it is heart work. We should lead our child and build a relationship with them. I learned so much about the heart of my children and made me conscious of my own parenting style and habits. A must read for every parent.

I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Josh Harris. I read this book a long time ago, when I was still single. This book made me look at dating relationships more seriously and to be ready for my lifetime partner. True enough, when I decided to kiss dating goodbye, God made me ready for my lifetime partner.

Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby. A book that inspired me to get closer to God and to experience him daily. Seeking God and His kingdom became a lifestyle. A true life shaping book!

Te books I mentioned were bought from OMF Literature (except for The Chronicles of Narnia, Experiencing God and Cultivating Your Inner Life).

Book Lover In Me

Since I was in high school, I have been a reader. I love books. I started reading short stories, comics and pocketbooks. I remember I used to read Sweet Dreams and I loved writing poetry. Probably that is where the love to blog started. Now, I love spending time with my kids reading. As a family, we invested a lot in books.

With the internet, came ebooks. Now, we no longer need to buy books at the bookstore, we can search for them online. Ebooks have different formats but majority are in PDF formats. I am glad that pdf search engine can search ebooks by title, author, episode or country. It has been a big help to us when we need to search for certain ebooks.
