Jumpstart Review and Giveaway

Jumpstart is not new to our family. We have used first in 2009. Then we were asked to review it again on 2010. On 2011, we tried the new features and this year, we were asked to review the product again. Since my kids loved Jumpstart before, we didn’t hesitate trying it.

When my kid,s ages 8 and 5, logged in, they were delighted to see the familiar areas. They saw StoryLand, which is aimed at 3-5 year olds. They also explored AdventureLand and MarineLand, which is designed for kids in kindergarten to second grade. My older child who is in 3rd grade, checked out  FutureLand and Uncle Milton’s Scienceland. Of course their favorite is the Enchanted Sanctuary. This is where they hatched and raise their own dragons!

The latest addition to the Jumpstart world is the interactive DreamWorks Madagascar™ area! If you are familiar with the movie, you would see all of the zoo animals and characters from the film. including the Penguins which get their own underground headquarters! Since my kids knew the movie characters, they were looking for characters like Marty, Gloria and Alex.

At first, we didn’t know where to find the Madagascar area in the whole Jumpstart world since it really contains a lot of activities inside.  We later found out that it can be found in Main Street. Just needed to proceed to the Central Park Zoo. Inside the Central Park Zoo, you can click on each animal and get to learn more facts about each animal. There is even a puzzle which you can complete.

Madagascar Preschool Surf and Slide was one of the first games my kids tried. It is an interactive game featuring baby versions of the Madagascar characters. It is located in the Zoo Nursery, directly behind the Central Park Zoo. To get there, exit the Zoo and go around the Zoo until you see the Nursery. It is located between StoryLand and Windy Hollows.

You can choose which character you wanted to use to surf and which surfing board to use.

As the character slides, he is presented with a question that is just right for preschoolers. He gains points as the game progresses.

Another interesting game is the new European train ride. As you ride the train, you can go down in the station and walk around and see more of Europe. As you play and explore the game, you will be able to know more facts and trivia about each country that you visit.

It is a great way for children to explore a little geography and culture.

There are downloadable games, additional lessons and worksheets which you can download and print for more learning fun. It is already included with your membership. You can also explore the JumpStart Blog at http://blog.jumpstart.com for information about the latest additions to the game. They also have a JumpStart gamer guide available at http://www.jumpstart.com/CustomerCare/game-guide.aspx .

I believe that Jumpstart can really be a good tool for the kids to learn reading, math and logic while enjoying. My own children loved it that they can create characters and play the game in several areas. The additional Madagascar content  are interesting and fun. They can encourage the kids to play and learn more about animals and geography. I think though there are too many areas already that the kids below 7 may find the game too hard and complex. They need to navigate through several areas before they can find what they are actually looking for.

We’ve actually had a hard time playing and navigating through the game because the system always hangs. I am not sure if it is my browser, my internet connection or the Unity Web Player which keeps crashing. Aside from that problem, I  think Jumpstart is still worth your money and your kid’s time.

You can choose different payments for membership in Jumpstart. There is  the monthly package worth $3.99/month or the $29.99/year or the$ 59.99 for lifetime membership.

Jumpstart Review and Giveaway

As a homeschool teacher to my kids, I always try to look for the best possible way for my kids to learn. Since I have a little boy who loves to play educational games on the computer, I was excited to try out Jumpstart with him. I also wanted to see how Jumpstart has evolved over the past year since we last tried it.

We were amazed to see the new developments inside Jumpstart. My 7 year old and 4 year old both were very excited to create their Jumpeez. They both got hooked with taking care of their pets in Petz.

We also saw the familiar Storyland and Adventureland but what really grabbed our attention was the new places like Jumpstart Stadium and Enchanted Sanctuary.

The Jumpstart Stadium had some Math questions after which you can answer and play some sports related games. This was a huge hit with my kids.

Enchanted Sanctuary was the place they visited daily because of the dragon that each of them has! They look forward to seeing their dragon hatch from the egg and as they play and care for their dragon, the dragon grows bigger each day.

They also tried out the new Math Blaster. Math Blaster can be an independent program from other Jumpstart games since when you start playing the game you can register a new character and change names too. Math Blaster is geared for older kids aged 6-12, so my kids didn’t enjoy Math Blaster so much. But I tried and and noticed how much fun learning Math can be while using Math Blaster. Math skills will definitely be enhanced in each level of the game.

Jumpstart can be a great tool for your kids no matter what their age is. They have a wide variety of educational games for different ages. Aside from that, they also have a great collection of worksheets and activities online for parents to share with their kids! They have reading, spelling and even math practice sheets!

Its been a year since I first reviewed JumpStart. My kids loved playing with JumpStart but we got busy and wasn’t able to play much with it lately. After being contacted a few days ago to do a review again, I am quite excited to see what changes has been made since our last visit.

The first thing that I noticed was that starting locations are now based on the age of the player. If you have entered your birthday into your account, you will be taken to an age appropriate starting location for your character. This is definitely a great improvement especially for the little ones who likes to play with JumpStart!
There are so many new places to go to.. I don’t know where we should try first? Should we try out the Enchanted Sanctuary where we can create an egg of a dragon through the eggulator.

Once the dragon become full-grown dragons, you can release them and even ride on them!

Another interesting development is the pets. My kids love pets and they definitely like having lots of choices for their pets!

Jumpstart Review and Giveaway

I was so excited when I was contacted a few weeks ago to try out JumpStart! JumpStart is a 3D online adventure which allows kids to discover through learning and exploring. It has several games which caters to different age groups ranging from 3-10 years old. I was excited to try it out with my 5 year old daughter as this would be our first time to try an online adventure game together.
She had a blast creating her Jumpee character at the Jumpee Builder. She created a character that looks just like her!

Jumpee Builder

We started to play and visit the different places. We visited the Adventureland, which is for kids in the kindergarde through grade 2. She found it a bit hard so we went to Storyland and she enjoyed it there. Storyland is for 3-5 year olds. We also were able to customize the game level of each individual game. Other places we liked are Buggy Racer and Movie House. Even my little boy who is 2 years old liked the game. He likes it when our Jumpee character goes to the slide! It is a lot of fun.

Story Land - Slide

Jump Start also updates its game. They are planning to launch a new section soon, Future Land for kids from 3rd to 5th grade. Not only that, they have a blog for parents and kids so you can send in your feedback and know more about the game!

Now, the makers of JumpStart, Konwledge Adventure is going to giveaway a 3 month free membership to the readers of this blog! I am so excited since this is the first giveaway of my blog.
