5 Family Devotionals You Can Use

One of the reasons why we chose to homeschool our kids is because we want to instill in them how important the Bible is to our lives. That is why family devotional time is of utmost importance to us. This is the time we intentionally take a break from our chores and daily routine. We spend some time with the family and read the Bible together and pray for one another. Most of the time, we use devotionals to guide us through the Bible and help us  in our discussions.

Here are some of the family devotional guides that you can use with your family:

What Really Matters in the End

When we are distracted by everyday busy-ness, we often forget what we should be pursuing. Instead of pursuing what really matters, we get side tracked of material possessions, other people’s lives via social media and fame. It is when we are most busy, that we should take a moment to reflect and check our lives – are we living it according to God’s prescription?

Here are some reminders:

DO NOT WASTE YOUR LIFE.

DO NOT LET SIN REIGN IN YOUR LIFE.

DO PRESENT YOUR LIFE AS INSTRUMENTS FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

We should live day to day with the end in mind. And these statements should help us to choose how we are going to spend every waking day that the Lord has blessed us with. Because at the end of the day,  these are what really matters.

The Utter Relief of Holiness Book Review

I knew the author John Eldredge from his phenomenal book Wild at Heart, but I wasn’t sure that I wanted to read his latest book. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got a hold of his new book which was released last January 8, 2013. The title of the book is The Utter Relief of Holiness: How God’s Goodness Frees Us from Everything that Plagues Us.

About the Author: John Eldredge has written 12 books, including Beautiful Outlaw and New York Times bestsellers Wild at Heart and Captivating (written with his wife Stasi). His books have sold more than 8 million copies. He is the Director of Ransomed Heart, a ministry devoted to helping people discover the heart of God. It has become a grassroots phenomenon with millions of followers.

When I was reading the book, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I found myself being drawn as I read chapter after chapter. I began to see that this book was not about “how to be holy” but it made me realize why holiness is important and what it really is. In our world today, holiness is often disguised as goodness or doubt or selective morality or technical rule-keeping. The author John Eldredge was also able to show Jesus’ holiness and wholeness and how He has redeemed us which gives us a new sense of wholeness and holiness. We can now choose holiness because of what Jesus has done.

I recommend this book to those Christians who want to know about the true meaning of  the wholeness and holiness we have in Christ. While I was reading this book, I felt like I was in a retreat, being refreshed and renewed. I also got to ask myself a lot of questions and it also allowed to reflect on my personal decisions on matters of faith and life. This book definitely drew me closer to the Lord and allowed me to appreciate goodness, holiness and wholeness in a whole new level.
