Homeschool Help: How to Begin Homeschooling Preschoolers

Homeschooling preschoolers is a challenge but it is doable. So where do I start? This is a question I often get and I would try to answer that through this post. Before you even begin looking at curriculum or activities for your child, you must decide why you want to homeschool your preschooler first. Remember that at the preschool age, it is important that you instill a love for learning on your kids so that when they go to primary grades, they will enjoy learning themselves and have good study habits.

1. It is very important that you know why you are doing this so that when tough days come, you have a goal and a reason to go back to.

2. Once you have a goal, it would be good to know your own learning style and the learning style of your child. This will enable you to know what kinds of materials both of you would enjoy doing. I have made a post about learning styles here.

3. Afterwards, you can begin looking for materials which suits your child and which you are comfortable using as well. You don’t have to spend much for preschoolers as there are many available online.

Here are some good sites to start looking for curriculum and preschool materials:

> Confessions of a Homeschooler

> Totally Tots

> 1+1+1=1

> Homeschool Creations

> An Old Fashioned Education

> Letter of the Week

If you need planners and forms, you can check out Donna Young’s site.

If you want some free interactive sites, you can visit the following:

> Starfall

> Story Time for me

> Progressive Phonics

  1. Thanks for this post, Mommy Chris!!! It’s really a great help for moms like me. Jade can read cvc’s now and if she continues making great progress, my husband just might agree to “formally” homeschool the toddlers. ^_^

  2. Thank you for sharing this Marz. I am not planning to home school Bella but the resources shared here is a great help. Johann started with Starfall and now Bella too. 😉

  3. I totally agree that you don’t need to spend a lot for preschool materials. Once, I had a very limited budget so I made alphabet and number flashcards (index cards are always cheap). We also made a huge learning wall chart covering shapes, colors, seasons, etc. from cardboard I already had and we read books!

  4. Great guide Chris! Very helpful for parents planning to home-school. 🙂

  5. Hello,

How to enroll a child in homeschooling?

  6. Hello Mommy Chris,
Do we have to enroll pa ba kahit ang i homeschool ko ay preschool palang? 🙂

    • Hello! I suggest that you only enroll pag prep na or senior kinder so that when you proceed to grade 1, you have the necessary paperworks if you plan to enroll him in conventional school later on.
