A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that I would be reviewing VocabularySpellingCity.com. VocabularySpellingCity.com is a site where students of all ages can improve their spelling skills and expand their vocabulary. The website’s approach is to enforce the elements through a combination of interactive learning.
My daughter loves to write but she sometimes has a problem with her spelling. As homeschoolers, I am always on the lookout for good supplements so I was really thrilled that we could try out SpellingCity and see if it would work for us.
After logging in and landing on the first page, I didn’t know which one to click or how to proceed. I found it necessary to read the FAQ pages to understand each step I needed to make. But once I was able to create student accounts, I was able to add lists of word for each student and made assignments for them. I liked it that there is no need for me to maintain records because automatically the site would keep the results from the assignments I made for them. I also liked that they have suggested words for each theme and as a teacher, I can create and compile my own list too. I can also customize the list for each student’s account. Another plus factor would be that the words are used in sentences so it improves the vocabulary of the students too.
My kids also liked it that the program is not like the traditional spelling workbook. They learn spelling and vocabulary through different games and activities. They particularly liked the Hangmouse, LetterFall and WordSearch. They don’t feel that they are doing school work at all!
If you are looking for an interactive spelling supplement, SpellingCity is definitely worth checking out!
