I have a 5 year old son who is just beginning to write so when we were given a chance to review this language skill helper unit, we were both excited to see what would happen after we tried this unit.
Language Skill Helpers – Punctuation and Sentences is a unit study on the different kinds of sentences and punctuation marks. It teaches the difference of statements questions and exclamation sentences. It also reinforces the correct usage of punctuation marks on each sentence and the proper capitalization of the sentence. The study starts with a short description of the kind of sentence and illustrates the sentence. There are several traceable sentences which follows for the student to copy and master sentence form and structure. The student can then rewrite the sentence and add on the punctuation marks.
The unit is developed for students who are just beginning to write and those who are having some problem with punctuation marks. It is intended for Kindergarden to 1st grade students.
My son isn’t particularly fond of writing but seeing those traceable letters sparked his interest to learn this unit. It took us two days to finish the entire unit. What I liked most about this unit study is that it is very simple and straightforward that my 5 year old easily understood the lessons being taught. He can now identify sentences and use the correct punctuation marks at the end of the sentence.
