Traveling with Kids

Traveling with kids who are under 7 years of age can be challenging for any parent. But it is not impossible. Recently, we traveled with our 2 kids ages 8 and 5. It was our first family trip outside of Luzon so we were all very excited. Of course, we had to prepare for the trip to make sure everyone would enjoy it!

As we were preparing our bags, I involved my kids in packing. I asked them to pack their stuff in a backpack like those osprey packs which we will use as hand carry luggage. They put in stuff like books, toys, pencil and paper. I asked them to put all that they want to do while waiting.

We discussed with the kids that there will be a lot of waiting, so they knew that they had to wait a lot during our flight.

We researched the place we were visiting so we had an idea what the food will be and what the schedule will be like. We shared this with the kids so that they knew what to expect.

Do you have any traveling tips you would like to share?

  1. Tiffany says:

Let them bring portable gadgets like psp or ipod so that they won’t get bored while waiting. If they love reading books, then I guess it’ll do too 😀

  2. I agree with Tiffany about the gadgets. I bring my iPad along with us when we are traveling and it keeps the kids entertain for hours. They can play games, read, watch movies, and watch TV through the Dish Remote Access app. With the Sling Adapter hooked up to my receiver, the kids can watch live TV where we can get a 3G or Wi-Fi connection. They love being able to watch all their favorite shows, and a co-worker at Dish told me I could stream our Blockbuster@Home service on there as well. It is great to have when we are traveling.

  3. I once traveled with my 10 year old cousin before and bringing her fav snack had saved her from boredom while we we’re waiting for the ferryboat for almost 2 hours. 🙂
