Fun in the Algarve With Kids

The Algarve is renowned for being an excellent family destination. As every parent knows however, the key to a successful family holiday is keeping the children content. Keeping the children entertained is easy to do in the activity-packed Algarve region in southern Portugal.

Many of the activities on offer here will keep kids of all ages happy throughout a heat wave and even through the occasional spot of rain.

The beaches and marinas are the more popular hotspots during the summer months and showcase a variety of fun pastimes, while you’ll still find plenty to do further inland.

Getting there

Getting to the Algarve is easy and there are a number of routes to consider, including flights to Faro with Monarch. If booking for the summer holidays, it’s never too early to start planning and those that book in advance will almost always get a better deal.

Summer holidays can be a nightmare to book for particularly when competing with other young families, since holiday resorts with family friendly activities and kids clubs can become full extremely quickly. Often if you book well in advance, you’ll only have to put down a deposit. This saves paying out a huge lump sum initially.

If you have extremely young children, it may be wise to choose accommodation with a nursery on site. Many resorts will even offer kids places for free.

Exploring

One major attraction in the Algarve is Zoomarine – this is a popular tourist hot spot regardless of the age of the children you are travelling with. The park is home to an abundance of rides, slides and pools, but also houses a rehabilitation centre for marine life.

As well as having fun in the sun, the little ones can also learn about the marine ecosystems for an educational twist.

Boat trips are another fun activity and act as a great way to tour the region. Children will enjoy the ins and outs of sailing a boat and will be more than happy to ride the waves.

This is also the ideal way to explore the Algarve’s hidden coves, private beaches and caves. Spotting a pirate or two is a great game to play with the youngsters and will keep them entertained throughout the trip.

Water parks are in abundance in the Algarve and can make for a great day out with the entire family. There are both daring and not so daring slides to choose from, as well as a variety of pools – making it a perfect option for the entire family.

Mini golf is another option if you’re travelling with young children and is a great activity to partake in as the sun sets.

Prior to embarking on your trip, check out the Algarve’s local calendar of events – you never know, you may stumble upon a festival or two.

With so many activities to choose from, there’s guaranteed to be a pastime to suit all.
