3 Ways to Finding What God Has Called You to Do

There are days I wonder whether what I am doing with my life is God’s will for me. There are many questions that fill my mind. Quesions like : Did He really call me to be a stay at home mom even now that my kids are all above 7 years of age? Shouldn’t a college graduate of a top university be pursuing a career? If I am to go back to work, what should I be doing?  Do you also have those days?

I believe that God has called me to be a follower of Jesus Christ and that I have completely surrendered my life to Him. I want to pursue what He wants me to for His glory. And yet, there are days that I question if what I am doing right now is really what He wants me to do.

So, how do I figure out what God has called me to do?

1. Read and meditate the Word of God. Spend time in prayer. The Bible is the first place to know what God wants for His people. Read, reflect and meditate. Before embarking on anything, it is of utmost importance that we become what God wants us to be so we can do what He wants. Our heart needs to be aligned with His.

2. When our hearts are aligned with God’s, go and take a retreat where you can really reflect on your life. Ask questions and answer honestly. Here are some guide questions.

> What are my strengths and weaknesses?

> What do I love doing?

> What can I contribute to the community?

> What are the circumstances telling me about my life?

3. The answer to these questions can help me find my purpose in life and what God wants me to do in this season of my life. Intentionally make goals that will lead me to fulfilling God’s call in my life.

Here is what I have learned so far. There is no one answer because life changes. God may call you to do this for now but it is no guarantee that is what He wants me to still be doing next month. It is of utmost importance that I am connected to God so that my heart is right before Him. Then I have to listen to my  heart and cirucumstances around me to see where God is leading me.

I know that the main purpose of my life is to bring glory to God and I can do it by living intentionally in the circumstances He has put me. To serve others with love and gratitude. As for specific answers, I have to understand the season of my life and check how it is intersecting with my purpose.

So, if you are having these sort of questions in your life, don’t hesitate — seek God, reflect on your life and intentionally set goals. It is not an easy path but it can jumpstart your life and take you to a more meaningful journey in life.

Find Your Passion

I read this quote fruom C.S. Lewis a few weeks back, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” It struck a cord in my heart and made me reflect on my life. I believe that God has a purpose for our life and a mission that he has set for each of us to accomplish.

In the midst of all the busyness we find ourselves in, it is important to find what that purpose in life is and to fulfill that mission with our wholehearted passion. It is only through doing this that we get to live  a full life.

Knowing that purpose will help us form goals and lead us to using our time more intentionally.Whether you want to be a successful career woman, entrepreneur, artist, writer, homemaker or something else, you just need to start setting goals and take little steps into fulfilling your dreams.

Here are some steps to find out your passion in life:

1. Take some time to reflect on your life and what you really enjoy doing. What are the things you would like to do even if you don’t get paid to do it?

2. Research about your interests. What specific area would you like to pursue? Are there other people who are already doing what you’d like to do? Talk to them and inquire. Get information on how you can pursue your dream. Attend workshops, conduct interviews or read about your passion.

3. Find a support group. Your support can come from your family members, friends or online support groups. Finding support can make or break your decision to pursue your goals. They can serve as your inspiration when tough  days come.

4. Create specific steps that you would like to make into turning your dream into a reality. Include details to help you accomplish these goals.

Life is short. Pursue your passion and make life more meaningful.

When Faced With Discouragement

Being intentional is never easy but it is most rewarding.

Though we should not be fooled into thinking that if we invested time and ourselves into something,  results will always be positive. There are certainly times that you have been intentional in relationship building but the results are not what you hoped it would be. What if disappointments in life come? Should you still continue to be passionate in what you believe in?

I think that lessons in life come in the form of disappointments. We, and even our children will learn from them. Instead of shrinking from challenges, we should believe that God is at work in our lives and be sensitive to what God is telling us.

As Helen Keller said “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”

Make A Difference in Syria

Have you ever wanted to make a difference in the life of a child? Have you seen commercials on television begging for contributions but never had the chance to actually donate? Have you wondered how you can make a difference in the life of a child from a third world country but weren’t sure how to get started? Now there is a way for anyone to donate to children from Syria who are refugees. Refugee children do not have homes. Due to conflicts, they were forced from their homes and are often malnourished, uneducated and poor.

The Unicef Syria crisis appeal is designed to help offer hope to these children and families. For a donation of fifty dollars, the crisis appeal will provide everything a family needs to survive. This includes clothes and blankets, as well as other household goods, that the family needs. Many families lost everything when they left their homes. This means that not only do they not have blankets, clothing, toys or books, but that they also lost any family heirlooms, special toys and precious items.

While fifty dollars might not seem like a lot, to a family who has nothing, fifty dollars can make a huge difference. For a one hundred dollar donation, the crisis fund will buy 122 exercise books and 1,818 pencils. These will go to children who are refugees. Many children who are refugees do not have a way to continue their education, but this fund helps provide that for the children. Again, one hundred dollars might not seem like a lot, but it will make a huge difference in children who didn’t have any hope of being able to become educated. Consider how difficult it would be for you to raise one hundred dollars. Something as simple as cutting out fast food or coffee for a month could give you the funding you need to make such a donation. Finally, for a two hundred dollar donation, the Syria crisis fund can buy 7,500 biscuits! These high energy biscuits go to feed children who are suffering from malnutrition. Many children do not get regular meals and some do not eat at all due to their status as refugees. If a child’s family does not work, they have no way to eat.

Such a donation may seem like an overwhelming amount of money, but it can truly make a huge difference in the life of a refugee child.
